Cosmetic Information

The natural aging process of the skin is something that most of us try to avoid. Now, with Fraxel® we can actively rejuvenate without the significant down time of plastic surgery. Fraxel® has both ablative and non-ablative capabilities, both of which can improve skin tone and texture. This laser procedure is great for anyone who wants to look younger in a subtle way.

Fraxel® uses advanced light technology to stimulate collagen production in the top layers of the skin, resulting in skin resurfacing. This technology works with your bodies natural cell cycle, therefore results may take up to 1-3 weeks to appear. Fraxel® can improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars, acne scarring, and pigmentation. This laser can also be used to reverse signs of precancerous lesions, by activating your own immune system to produce new healthy cells.

We topically numb each patient for 60-90 minutes prior to performing the laser treatment, which takes anywhere from 10-40 min depending on the size of the area. You should expect 5-7 days of healing time for your skin to return to a normal state. It is important to protect the treated area after the procedure with a proper moisturizer and SPF. Our care team will go over the best recommended products for use after treatment. If you have any specific questions, feel free to call either of our two offices.

Laser treatment will cause varying degrees of redness and swelling in the treatment area. These common side effects last from several days to a couple of weeks, depending upon the aggressiveness of the treatments. Possibility of itching may occur as part of the normal healing process. Heating the upper layers of the skin may cause blisters or burns and subsequent scab formation. Though these side effects are rare, it is important that you understand the risks of treatment. We will go over these risks and side effects with you during our consultation visit.

Treatment requires about 30 minutes for a complete session. When you arrive to our office, we will apply numbing cream for 15 minutes prior to the treatment. After the numbing period is complete, we will wash the cream off and start the treatment. Our health care professionals will gently guide the Clear + Brilliant® handpiece across the target areas with several passes. The handpiece utilizes the patented Intelligent Optical Tracking System (IOTS) to ensure that your provider maintains proper contact to deliver a uniform treatment to all areas. A topical antioxidant serum will be applied to the skin immediately after the treatment is complete. A refreshing mask may also be applied for 10-15 minutes after the treatment.

Immediately post treatment, you may experience some redness, mild swelling, and heat, which typically diminish in under 12 hours. Over the next few days, you may experience some itchiness or skin sensitivity (to touch or temperature). Both are indications of the natural renewal process and typically dissipate a few days after treatment. Most typical skin care products and practices can be used immediately after treatment. Your skin care professional will talk to you about any products to avoid following the treatment.

Clear + Brilliant® was not only designed to be effective, but to deliver unparalleled patient comfort and safety also. The system includes smart-tip technology and an advanced precision energy delivery system – ensuring consistent results with little or no social downtime.
Clear + Brilliant® is safe for all skin types but there are some side effects rarely occur. Your treatment provider will perform a pre-treatment consultation and decide with you if Clear + Brilliant® is the right choice for you.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is the first and only filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area. It gives you a subtle lift, helping to restore contour and a more youthful profile, for up to 2 years. It's different than JUVÉDERM® XC and works on a different area of the face. JUVÉDERM® XC smoothes out moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth, like parentheses. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC, however, adds volume to the cheek area.

  • First and only Hyaluronic Acid (HA) filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area, resulting in a subtle lift
  • Clinically proven to last up to 2 years with optimal treatment
  • After 24 hours, you should be able to resume your normal activities
  • Side effects are moderate and generally last 2 to 4 weeks. Common side effects include temporary reactions at the treatment site such as tenderness, swelling, firmness, lumps/bumps, bruising, pain, redness, discoloration, and itching.

KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid) injection is the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness, sometimes referred to as the “double chin.”
We will design a treatment plan tailored to help you improve your chin profile. During the treatments, we will administer KYBELLA® into the fat under your chin using multiple injections. Many patients experience visible results in 2 to 4 treatment sessions. Up to 6 treatment sessions may be administered about 6-8 weeks apart.

KYBELLA® is a prescription medicine used in adults to improve the appearance and profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin. The active ingredient in the injectable treatment is deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected in the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat again.

Are you bothered by submental fullness, or double chin? Do you wish your jaw line was more defined? This is a very common yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition. It can impact a broad range of adults, including both men and women, and can be influenced by several factors such as aging, genetics, and weight gain, and is often resistant to diet and exercise alone.
If you are bothered by submental fullness, you are not alone. According to a 2015 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 67% of people said they’re bothered by under-the-chin fullness. The study also showed that people are just as bothered by under-the-chin fullness as they are by lines and wrinkles around and under the eyes.
We would love for you to schedule a consultation visit to determine if you are a good candidate for KYBELLA®. Call our office to schedule your visit today.

During your consultation visit, we will design a treatment plan tailored to help you achieve your goal chin profile. During the treatment sessions, we will administer the medication into the fat under your chin using multiple small injections. Multiple treatment are administered at a six to eight week interval. During the clinical trials, patients were treated with up to six treatments, but many patients showed significant improvement after two to four treatments
After the series of treatments has been completed, you can expect less submental fat and a more defined jaw line profile. Once the desired aesthetic response is achieved with KYBELLA®, retreatment is not necessary.
KYBELLA® has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies with more than 2,600 patient worldwide! In these studies, 68% of patient experienced improvement with treatment. After 6 treatments, 72% experienced at least a grade 1 improvement and 15% experienced a grade 2 improvement! 79% of patients treated with KYBELLA® reported satisfaction with the appearance of their face and chin. Patients also reported improvement in self-perception including feeling happier and younger based on their chin profile, as well as feeling less embarrassed, less self-conscious, less overweight, and less bothered by submental fullness.

The safety profile of KYBELLA® is well characterized. The most common side effects of treatment include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area. KYBELLA® can cause more serious side effects including trouble swallowing and nerve injury that could cause an uneven smile or facial muscle weakness. Though these side effects are rare, it is important that you understand the risks of KYBELLA® treatment. We will go over these risks and side effects with you during our consultation visit.

BOTOX®/Dysport® cosmetics are types of neuromodulators, and are the most popular cosmetic procedures in the country and one of our most requested services. Quick, safe and effective, neuromodulators reduce or eliminate facial lines and wrinkles for up to six months with no downtime and little to no discomfort. Through a series of tiny injections, neuromodulators can give you a rejuvenated look by smoothing crow's feet beneath the eyes, frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal lines across the forehead, worry lines around the mouth, and lines on the neck.
In addition to smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles, neuromodulators may be useful for treating migraine headaches, excessive sweating, chronic back and jaw pain, and muscle spasms.

A good candidate for neuromodulator treatment may be anyone looking to enhance their appearance by getting rid of unwanted lines or wrinkles. It is also important that patients seeking treatment with neuromodulators are in good physical health, are not pregnant or nursing, and do not have a neuromuscular disorder.
Men and women considering neuromodulator treatment should have realistic expectations of what the procedure can do. You should discuss the desired results with our team to ensure that your goals can be achieved.

Even though neuromodulator injections are not a surgical procedure, it is very important to choose a highly experienced and qualified physician when deciding to undergo treatment. Doctors who are less familiar with the technique could leave you looking "frozen" or perpetually surprised. Dr. Evans and her team are intimately familiar with neuromodulator injections, having successfully treated hundreds of patients at our office. Not only that, she also takes the time to talk with each candidate before beginning the injections to find out what he or she wants to achieve and to determine how best to correct their problem area(s), so patients can be happy again with their smoother, younger-looking faces.

Immediately following the neuromodulator treatment, some patients may experience mild bruising, which will go away shortly. You will see your wrinkles begin to fade within 24 hours, with continued improvement over the next 5 days. The effects of neuromodulators typically last up to four months, although many have reported results lasting up to a full year. After several neuromodulator treatments, the results may be prolonged.

Dermal Fillers

Over time, permanent furrows and deep wrinkles develop in the skin and our ability to maintain that smoothness and elasticity diminishes. These lines can make you look older, sad, dehydrated, angry or tired, most often developing around the eyes and mouth, as well as between the eyebrows and on the forehead. Fortunately, dermal fillers can erase these signs of aging to restore a younger, more refreshed appearance.
Patients can achieve a fuller, younger appearance while still maintaining the natural features that define who they are. Fillers are most effective in reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds, the lines that run from the bottom of the nose to the corner of the mouth on both sides of the face.

Filler injections are ideal for any patients who are unhappy with the signs of aging present on their skin and are looking to enhance their overall appearance. There are no major risks associated with this treatment.
In order to achieve satisfactory results, it is important for patients to have realistic expectations for their treatment and understand that filler injections will not completely alter your look. Our team will help you decide whether or not this treatment is right for you after a physical examination and discussion of your desired goals.

Injections take about 15-30 minutes to administer in office with no need for anesthesia. Our team may choose to apply a topical or injectable anesthetic to numb the treatment area and reduce any potential discomfort. The injection is then administered under the skin in the targeted area to add volume or fill in wrinkles and folds. After the injection, our team may gently massage the treated areas.
Once treatment is completed, patients can return to their regular activities right away, with virtually no downtime. For the first 24 hours after treatment, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure and consumption of alcoholic beverages to reduce the risk of complications after treatment. Some patients may experience mild side effects such as redness, swelling or itching, but these usually go away on their own after a short time.

The results of a filler injection are visible immediately after the procedure, and will continue to improve over the next few days as any swelling and bruising subside. Results are expected to last six to nine months, but in many cases last up to year.
Most patients achieve their desired results in just one treatment session and may only require yearly touch-up treatments in order to maintain results. As always, the results of this procedure may vary, but most patients are more than satisfied with their enhanced appearance after dermal fillers.

While fillers are considered safe for most patients, there are certain risks associated with any kind of treatment. Some of these risks may include temporary redness, pain and swelling at the injection site, as well as bruising, itching, discoloration and infection. Most of these risks are considered rare, and can be further reduced by choosing an experienced doctor to administer your injection.

LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is an FDA-approved treatment to grow eyelashes for people with inadequate or not enough lashes. Results can be seen about 12-16 weeks after daily application to upper lashes.

Important Safety Information

While fillers are considered safe for most patients, there are certain risks associated with any kind of treatment. Some of these risks may include temporary redness, pain and swelling at the injection site, as well as bruising, itching, discoloration and infection. Damage caused by sun exposure, disease, and other conditions can lead to the appearance of redness, inflammation, pigmentation and other symptoms within certain areas of the skin. Although not usually of medical concern, these symptoms can affect a person's self-confidence because of their cosmetic effect on a person's appearance. Photofacials can improve the signs of sun damage, rosacea, and brown spots on the face, hands, and body. It has also been used to reduce the appearance of mild acne scars, dark circles around the eyes and fine lines around the eyes of mouth. We utilize the Lumenis M22 laser for our IPL/Photofacial treatments, which is the gold standard platform for cosmetic skin treatments.
Photofacials use concentrated pulses of light, or IPL, to improve the texture, tone and appearance of the skin in patients with sun damage, sunspots, rosacea, spider veins and other embarrassing or unsightly conditions. The pulses of light used during this treatment target pigmented areas of the skin and dissolve the affected cells to create a smoother and clearer complexion, treating several conditions simultaneously when needed. This treatment can be used effectively on the face, chest, neck, arms, back and legs, depending on the condition of each patient's skin and their individual goals for treatment.

During the photofacial procedure, pulses of light are emitted into the skin. The light is absorbed by the pigment in sunspots and the blood in the visible vessels, and converted to heat. The heat dissolves the cells that create the pigment and shrinks the vessels. The photofacial handpiece is gently pressed into the skin of the targeted area to deliver painless pulses of light.
The patient may experience a sensation similar to a rubber band being snapped on the skin, although most patients report this sensation as being tolerable. A topical anesthetic gel may be applied prior to treatment in order to minimize potential discomfort. After the treatment, the topical anesthetic is removed, and moisturizer is applied with sunscreen. If there is any mild swelling, a cold pack may be applied for five or ten minutes. Commonly, our team will allow a patient to re-apply foundation or concealer immediately after treatment.
Each treatment session takes about 20 to 45 minutes to perform, depending on the size and location of the targeted area. Usually four to six treatment sessions are recommended to produce optimal results.

After the photofacial treatment, patients can return to work and other regular activities the same day with little to no side effects. The skin may appear slightly flushed and capillaries may appear more visible, but these changes are often unnoticeable to others. It is important for patients to protect their skin from sun exposure for the first few months after treatment to promote proper healing and long-term results.
Most patients will experience a disappearance or significant reduction in skin irregularities after a series of treatment sessions spaced several weeks apart, although results depend on the type and severity of the condition being treated. Sun spots and other forms of sun damage tend to darken after treatment and then shed from the skin after one to two weeks. Patients with rosacea often notice a decrease in redness and a return to a more normal skin tone within a week after treatment. Those with spider veins may experience a full or partial fading of affected vessels after 10 to 14 days.
Our team will develop a customized treatment plan in order to achieve the desired results for each patient's individual condition.

Photofacials are considered safe and effective for most patients, with only a minor risk of bruising and redness, which usually fade on their own. When performed by an experienced physician, most patients can achieve their desired results with no complications.
Most patients seeking skin rejuvenation to restore a smoother, more youthful appearance, or to correct certain skin issues will be ideal candidates for photofacials. One possible contraindication for photofacial treatment is taking medication that increases photosensitivity. If the patient is using a topical or oral medicine that makes them more sensitive to light, this may not be the right form of treatment. Be sure to discuss the patient's medical history and any medications during a consultation with our team.

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure used to remove unwanted body hair with pulsed laser energy. This procedure removes hair from the targeted area while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. Common areas on which laser hair removal is performed are the chin, upper lip, chest, underarms, back, bikini line and legs. Areas targeted are usually somewhat dependent on the gender of the patient.
While there are many temporary treatments to remove unwanted hair such as tweezing, shaving, using depilatory creams and waxing, patients seeking more permanent, less irritating, or less painful methods are frequently very pleased with laser hair removal. Through this safe and painless procedure patients can enjoy long-term hair removal from nearly any area of the body. However, this treatment cannot be performed on the eyes since there is a possibility of serious eye damage.

Individuals whose excessive hair growth in a particular region of the body is bothersome are candidates for laser hair removal. Excessive hair growth may be the result of heredity, certain medications or disease processes, or hormonal changes during puberty, menopause or pregnancy. Whatever the cause of the condition, laser therapy may be an effective solution.
The success of laser hair removal is affected by hair color and skin type. The most effective results usually occur in individuals with dark hair and light skin. This is because the laser beams target the melanin, or pigment, in the hair. Individuals with blond, red, gray or white hair are not usually good candidates for laser hair removal. Recent technological advances have made laser hair removal for dark-skinned individuals more successful, while procedures to effectively remove light-colored hair with lasers are presently under investigation.

There are many benefits to having unwanted hair removed through the use of laser therapy. Among these are that laser hair therapy is:

  • Precise, targeting of hairs for immediate removal
  • Quick, removing hair in only minutes
  • Long-lasting, showing permanent results for 90 percent of patients

Laser hair removal is performed while the targeted area is numbed by a topical anesthetic. A handheld device that emits intense laser pulses is moved across the region, focusing on individual hair follicles. An appropriate hair removal plan is created on an individual basis in consultation with our team.
Hair growth takes place cyclically in three stages. The most effective laser hair removal takes place during the androgen, or full-growth stage. Hair follicles that are in a stage of active growth will be disabled by the laser energy, stopping continued hair growth. Because all of the hair is not in the same stage of growth at any given time, several laser treatments, often 5 or more spaced 4-6 weeks apart, are necessary. To some extent, the length of necessary treatment will depend on the location and texture of the patient's hair.
For many patients, laser hair removal is painless. Some individuals experience minimal discomfort, usually described as something like a rubber band snapping against the skin.

Although laser hair removal is considered a safe procedure, any type of medical procedure involves some risk of complication. The most common complication of laser hair removal is a regrowth of unwanted hair. Since some hair is resistant to laser treatment, it is possible for hair to regrow. Frequently, however, the hair that regrows after laser treatment is finer and lighter than the hair that has been removed. Most often, the problem of regrowth can be overcome with a few additional treatment sessions. Other complications that may arise after laser hair treatment include:

  • Temporary skin irritation, such as blistering or crusting
  • Changes in pigmentation or texture of the skin
  • Scarring at the site (very rare)

Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to treat spider veins, most commonly found on the legs, by collapsing them through the use of a solvent. Sclerotherapy has been used on patients since the 1930s with great success, producing increasingly effective medical, as well as cosmetic, results.

Individuals troubled by spider veins, either because they find them unattractive or because they experience uncomfortable symptoms such as aching, burning, swelling and cramping, may choose, in consultation with our team, to undergo sclerotherapy.

During sclerotherapy, a solution of saline and a sclerosant is injected into the damaged veins. This causes irritation in the affected veins and as a result they eventually collapse. When the weakened veins collapse, they are reabsorbed into the body and other healthier veins take place in the circulatory system.
Sclerotherapy has proven to be a safe procedure and is performed outpatient in the doctor's office. Typically, sclerotherapy is performed in less than an hour, although a varying number of injections may be required, depending on the number of veins involved. Patients do not require an anesthetic and usually report little or no discomfort during the procedure, though some patients report experiencing a very mild burning sensation. In some instances, several sclerotherapy treatments may be necessary.

Although sclerotherapy is a safe procedure that has been successfully performed for many years, there are certain risks associated with any medical procedure. Certain minimal, temporary side effects are to be expected, including bruising and discoloration. More serious complications are rare.

Patients are able to return home shortly after sclerotherapy. Most can return to work and resume normal activities the next day, although exercise and strenuous activities are to be avoided a week or two. Compression bandages usually need to be worn for a week or so after the procedure. While it may take up to a month for the patient to see full results, some improvement is usually visible immediately.
In order to promote vascular health and to preserve the positive effects of the sclerotherapy, it is recommended that patients maintain a healthy weight and make exercise part of their daily routine.

Chemical Peels

A chemical peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is topically applied to remove the damaged outer layers of the skin. The skin that grows back after a chemical peel appears softer, less wrinkled, more even in color, tone and with improved texture. A chemical peel may also be combined with laser resurfacing, soft-tissue fillers or other cosmetic procedures to achieve the individual needs of the patient.

A chemical peel is used to treat a variety of cosmetic and medical conditions, including the following:

  • Wrinkles
  • Acne
  • Scars
  • Uneven skin pigmentation
  • Precancerous growths

Chemical peels vary in depth from light to deep. During the initial evaluation, Dr. Evans will determine the appropriate depth and type of chemical peel for the patient's specific condition. A light chemical peel can be repeated as often as once a week for up to six weeks, to achieve the desired results, while medium to deeper peels can performed every month and then six to 12 months to maintain results.

  • Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs)
  • Retinol
  • Glycolic acid
  • Salicylic acid
  • SkinMedica Vitalize peel
  • Trichloroacetic acid (TCA)

Dr. Evans will discuss the types of chemical peels and help choose the appropriate type for the individual patient. Every chemical peel solution is customized to the needs of each patient.

Chemical peels are performed in the doctor's office. Before the procedure, the skin is cleaned. Then, the chemical peel solution is applied with cotton balls and gauze sponges. This will cause a burning sensation which may last for five to ten minutes in most patients, followed by a stinging sensation which may last up to 20 minutes. If needed, pain medication may be taken before or after the treatment, along with cool compresses to reduce swelling.

The chemical peel can cause redness, irritation, flaking or crusting, and sometimes mild swelling which can last a few days and sometimes up to a week, depending on the strength of the peel used. Dr. Evans will prescribe the correct individualized regime for aftercare for your peel.
