Juvéderm® Facial Filler

Juvederm Dermal Fillers | Tracy Evans MDOver time, permanent furrows and deep wrinkles develop in the skin as a result of aging, overuse and constant muscle contractions. These lines can make you look older, sad, angry or tired, most often developing around the eyes and mouth, as well as between the eyebrows and on the forehead. Fortunately, dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® Injectable Gel can erase these signs of aging to restore a younger, more refreshed appearance.

What is Juvederm?

Juvéderm is an FDA-approved smooth consistency gel capable of restoring volume to the skin while smoothing away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. This injection is made of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that adds volume and hydration. But unlike other hyaluronic acid fillers, which usually have granular consistencies, Juvéderm is easily injected into the skin and produces immediate, natural-looking results. There are many different types of Juvederm treatments, they include:

  • Juvederm XC
  • Juvederm Voluma XC
  • Juvederm Volbella
  • Juvederm Vollure XC
  • Juvederm Ultra

Patients can achieve a fuller, younger appearance while still maintaining the natural features that define who they are. Juvéderm is most effective in reducing the appearance of nasolabial folds, the lines that run from the bottom of the nose to the corner of the mouth on both sides of the face.

who is a good Candidate for Juvéderm?

Juvéderm injections are ideal for any patients who are unhappy with the signs of aging present on their skin and are looking to enhance their overall appearance. Juvéderm is the first hyaluronic acid filler FDA-approved for safe and effective use on persons of color. There are no major risks associated with this treatment.

In order to achieve satisfactory results, it is important for patients to have realistic expectations for their treatment and understand that Juvéderm injections will not completely alter your look. Dr. Evans will help you decide whether or not this treatment is right for you after a physical examination and discussion of your desired goals.

*Juvéderm Procedure

Juvéderm injections take about 15 minutes to administer in your doctor's office with no need for anesthesia. Dr. Evans may choose to apply a topical or injectable anesthetic to numb the treatment area and reduce the risk of any potential discomfort. The injection is then administered under the skin in the targeted area to add volume or fill in wrinkles and folds. After the injection, Dr. Evans may gently massage the treated areas.

Once treatment is completed, patients can return to their regular activities right away, with virtually no downtime. For the first 24 hours after treatment, patients should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure and consumption of alcoholic beverages to reduce the risk of complications after treatment. Some patients may experience mild side effects such as redness, swelling or itching, but these usually go away on their own after a short time.

*How Long does Juvéderm last?

The results of a Juvéderm injection are visible immediately after the procedure, and will continue to improve over the next few days as any swelling and bruising subside. Results are expected to last six to nine months, but in many cases last up to year, the only hyaluronic acid filler to last that long.

Most patients achieve their desired results in just one treatment session and may only require yearly touch-up treatments in order to maintain results. As always, the results of this procedure may vary, but most patients are more than satisfied with their enhanced appearance after Juvéderm.

Risks and Complications

While Juvéderm is considered safe for most patients, there are certain risks associated with any kind of treatment. Some of these risks may include:

  • Temporary redness
  • Pain and swelling at the injection site
  • Bruising
  • Itching
  • Discoloration
  • Infection

Most of these risks are considered rare, and can be further reduced by choosing an experienced doctor to administer your injection.

Juvederm Voluma for the cheeks | Tracy Evans MD
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA™ XC injectable gel is the first and only filler FDA-approved to instantly add volume to the cheek area. It gives you a subtle lift, helping to restore contour and a more youthful profile, for up to 2 years. After 24 hours, you should be able to resume your normal activities.

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is an innovative hyaluronic acid soft tissue filler formulated specifically for the mid-face. Hyaluronic acid fillers are comprised of long-chain sugars that occur naturally in the skin as well as the joints of the body. This filler product has been produced using sophisticated Vycross technology, which intricately cross-links these sugar chains to greater viscosity, malleability, and lift capacity. It is the degree of cross-linking that also makes JUVÉDERM VOLUMA one of the longest-lasting fillers on the market today.

What is Voluma used for?

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is primarily used for volume restoration in the cheek area. This part of the face naturally loses volume with age, as fatty tissue beneath the surface drops to the jowls. The introduction of hyaluronic acid into the appropriate areas of the cheeks, from the apples to the angular horizontal bone structure, can noticeably lift the appearance of the cheeks and jowls, ultimately making the face appear younger.

Am I a candidate for Voluma?

If you have begun to notice the appearance of jowls, or the loss of contouring across the mid-face, you may be an excellent candidate for JUVÉDERM VOLUMA. This filler treatment is one of the most popular in our practice, and Dr. Evans can discuss with you the benefits you may receive with this product during a comprehensive consultation. We routinely treat adults of all ages with this product, easing the signs of aging that occur in the cheek area.

How many syringes will I need?

The amount of product needed to achieve the desired outcome varies from person to person. When cheekbone structure is already rather prominent and minimal volume loss has occurred, it may be possible to successfully treat each cheek with as little as half a syringe. Obviously, the more volume that is desired, the more product we will need to use. In clinical trials of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA, injectors administered as many as 7 syringes in individual patients. This is not the norm among clinicians who routinely treat patients with this product. For more substantial lift and curvature, we may use 1 to 2 syringes.

Why Choose Voluma

JUVÉDERM VOLUMA is appropriate for men and women interested in adding volume and contour to the mid-face area. One of the primary reasons for the popularity of this soft tissue filler is the longevity of the product. The density of JUVÉDERM VOLUMA makes it slow in the degradation process. Tissue tends to hold onto the water molecules bound to hyaluronic acid for up to two years. Additional reasons to choose JUVÉDERM VOLUMA include cost effectiveness and comfort of treatment thanks to the inclusion of Lidocaine in the filler solution. Finally, the cross-linking of HA sugar chains makes VOLUMA moldable once it has been injected into the proper areas of the cheeks, chin, or other facial region. This allows Dr. Evans to create lift and contours that look completely natural.

Another aspect of treatment that is appealing is the minimal side effects associated with treatment. Injectables are an excellent alternative to surgical lifting procedures for many people because they allow a quick return to normal activities. After treatment in our office, most patients go right back to their day as usual, even returning to work.

These side effects are ususally mild or moderate and lasted 30 days or less.

What is Volbella (Lip Filler)?

Juvederm Volbella for lips | Tracy Evans MD

Volbella is the newest dermal filler to join the Juvederm family. This injectable was developed to target specifically both the lips and area around the mouth. Developers have mastered the ability to provide patients with an increase in lip fullness as well as soften lines found around the mouth. This treatment will leave you with noticeable and most certainly professional results including:
  • Fuller and more defined lips
  • Lines and wrinkles found about the lips will smoothen out

How does Volbella differ from other Fillers?

Volbella shares many qualities with the other members of the Juvederm family. This includes the presence of hyaluronic acid (HA). The natural occurring quality of hyaluronic acid supplies the face with a supple appearance, leaving the performed area with youthful skin. Even with this similarity, Volbella has a unique difference in comparison to the other dermal fillers. Volbella treatment has a nice thin consistency, allowing the treatment to enter very close to the skin’s surface. This unique quality leaves the patient with more noticeable results.
